Blood tests are one of the most common diagnostic tools for various physical ailments. Different blood tests can diagnose underlying chronic conditions or infections in individuals, not just general health.

Most doctors use blood tests as a primary step toward ascertaining a definitive diagnosis for the patient. Since our blood is responsible for nourishing our body with nutrients and supplying adequate oxygen to every part of the body, it isn’t surprising that it holds the gateway to the proper diagnosis of an underlying condition.

Blood glucose test

Commonly known as blood sugar tests or Fasting and Postprandial sugar tests, this helps evaluate the blood glucose levels on an empty stomach and in the postprandial phase after a meal. It is a key marker for the diagnosis of diabetes in individuals.

Besides fasting plasma glucose test (FPG) or Random plasma glucose test (RPG), other blood glucose tests include Hemoglobin A1c test, Urine sugar fasting, etc.

Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR)

This blood test determines how long it takes the red blood cells to precipitate to the bottom of the test tube. Faster falling of the RBCs to the bottom signifies signs of inflammation in the body. The test is prescribed to diagnose certain diseases like arthritis, endocarditis, Crohn’s disease, etc.

Complete Blood count (CBC) test

This is a very common blood test done to ascertain the overall health of the blood cells in the body, including the red, and white blood cells, platelets, etc. It can indicate signs of infection, genetic disorders, bleeding disorders, anemia, leukemia, etc. Any abnormalities in the levels can indicate an underlying disorder.
